Folding pricing controls how much is added to the quote when a customer requests folds on a part.
You can find these settings from:
Quote & Cut → Secondary Processes → Folding
Folding price fields #
The main folding price fields are:
- Setup fee per different folded part.
- Price per fold.
- Minimum folding charge.
- Size surcharge bands.
- Weight surcharge bands.
Setup fee per different folded part #
The Setup fee per different folded part is charged once for each different folded part line.
Use this to recover setup, programming, press brake preparation, or review time.
Example:
If a customer orders 10 of the same folded part, the setup fee is charged once for that part line, not 10 times.
Price per fold #
The Price per fold is multiplied by the number of folds entered by the customer.
Example:
- Price per fold: £3.00
- Number of folds: 4
- Folding charge per component before surcharges: £12.00
The fold price scales with quantity.
Minimum folding charge #
The Minimum folding charge protects you from undercharging small folding jobs.
It is applied per different folded part line.
Example:
- Setup fee: £10.00
- Price per fold: £3.00
- Quantity: 1
- Number of folds: 1
- Calculated folding price before minimum: £13.00
- Minimum folding charge: £25.00
The folding price is raised to £25.00.
How folding is calculated #
For each folded part line, Quote & Cut calculates folding roughly like this:
- Number of folds × price per fold.
- Add any size surcharge.
- Add any weight surcharge.
- Multiply by the part quantity.
- Add the setup fee once for the part line.
- Apply the minimum folding charge if required.
Size surcharge bands #
Size surcharge bands add an extra flat fee based on the longest side of the part.
These are configured in:
Folding → Size surcharge bands
Each band has:
- From.
- To.
- Additional fee.
Example:
| From | To | Additional fee |
|---|---|---|
| 500 mm | 1000 mm | £25 |
| 1000 mm | 2000 mm | £50 |
If a part’s longest side falls inside a band, that fee is added once per component.
Weight surcharge bands #
Weight surcharge bands add an extra flat fee based on the weight of a single component.
These are configured in:
Folding → Weight surcharge bands
Each band has:
- From.
- To.
- Additional fee.
Example:
| From | To | Additional fee |
| 5 kg | 10 kg | £15 |
| 10 kg | 20 kg | £35 |
The weight check is based on one component, not the total order quantity.
Surcharge bands are optional #
If you do not configure surcharge bands, no size or weight surcharge is added.
Use surcharge bands if larger or heavier parts require more handling, setup, or production time.
Avoid double-counting #
Be careful not to include the same cost in several places.
For example, if your setup fee already covers press brake setup, do not also add a large size surcharge unless large parts genuinely add extra work.
Recommended test #
After configuring folding prices, test:
- One small part with one fold.
- One small part with several folds.
- A larger folded part that triggers a size surcharge.
- A heavier folded part that triggers a weight surcharge.
- A higher quantity folded part.
Compare the results with your manual folding price.
