This article can be adapted into a customer-facing help page for your website.

Use it to help customers prepare DXF files before uploading them to the Quote & Cut form.

Prepare one part per DXF file #

For best results, upload one cut part per DXF file.

If you need several different parts, upload each part as a separate DXF.

Use closed contours #

The cutting profile should use closed contours.

Open lines, broken outlines, or incomplete shapes may prevent the file from being quoted.

Remove unwanted geometry #

Before uploading, remove anything that should not be cut.

This may include:

  • Title blocks.
  • Dimensions.
  • Notes.
  • Construction lines.
  • Hidden layers.
  • Duplicate geometry.
  • Centre marks.
  • Extra views.
  • Borders.

Only the required cut profile should remain.

Check scale and units #

Make sure the DXF is exported at the correct size.

If your DXF does not specify units, Quote & Cut may ask you to confirm the displayed dimensions before calculating.

Check the displayed size carefully before confirming.

Avoid multiple parts in one DXF #

Do not place several separate parts in one DXF file unless you have been told to do so.

Quote & Cut is designed to quote each uploaded DXF as a part.

Upload separate DXF files for separate parts.

Check internal holes #

If the part includes holes or cut-outs, make sure they are drawn as closed contours inside the outer profile.

Parts with lots of holes may take longer to cut and may cost more.

Use simple file names #

Use clear file names such as:

  • bracket-left.dxf
  • mounting-plate-3mm.dxf
  • cover-panel.dxf

Avoid special characters, very long names, and unclear file names.

Export as DXF #

The main quote form accepts DXF files for parts.

If you are using folding and need to provide a folding drawing, the folding drawing upload may accept additional file types, depending on the website’s configuration.

Preview before calculating #

After uploading, check the preview.

If the preview looks wrong, replace the file before calculating the price.

Confirm dimensions when asked #

If the form asks you to confirm dimensions, check the displayed size carefully.

Only confirm if the dimensions match what you expect.

If the size is wrong, choose the correct unit or fix the DXF export and upload it again.

If the file does not upload or quote #

Check:

  • The file is a DXF.
  • The file contains a valid closed cutting profile.
  • The file contains one part.
  • The file is not empty.
  • The drawing is at the correct scale.
  • The part fits the selected material sheet.
  • You have selected a material and quantity.

If the issue continues, contact the website owner and include the DXF file and a screenshot of the message.
