Materials control what customers can select on the quote form and how Quote & Cut calculates pricing.

You can manage materials from:

Quote & Cut → Settings → Materials

Material list #

The material list shows the materials currently available in your Quote & Cut library.

Starter materials imported from the setup wizard appear here.

You should review every starter material before going live.

Adding a material #

To add a new material:

  1. Go to Quote & Cut → Settings.
  2. Scroll to Materials.
  3. Click Add Material.
  4. Enter the material details.
  5. Click Save Settings.

Removing a material #

To remove a material:

  1. Find the material in the material list.
  2. Click Remove.
  3. Click Save Settings.

Only remove materials if you are sure they should no longer be available for new quotes.

Main material fields #

Each material has these main fields:

  • Name.
  • ID.
  • Material Type.
  • Thickness (mm).
  • Cost.
  • Gas Used.

Name #

The Name is the customer-facing material name.

Use a clear name that customers and staff will understand.

Examples:

  • Mild Steel S275.
  • Stainless Steel 304.
  • Aluminium 1050.
  • Galvanised Steel.

ID #

The ID is used internally by Quote & Cut to identify the material.

Use a simple, unique ID.

Examples:

  • ms_s275_3mm
  • ss_304_2mm
  • al_1050_1_5mm

Best practice:

  • Keep IDs short.
  • Use lowercase letters where possible.
  • Avoid spaces.
  • Use underscores or hyphens.
  • Do not reuse the same ID for different materials.
  • Avoid changing IDs once the material is in use.

Material Type #

The Material Type controls how the material is grouped in the frontend material picker.

Available types are:

  • Aluminium.
  • Carbon Steel.
  • Galvanised Steel.
  • Stainless Steel.
  • Other.

Choose the type that best describes the material.

Use Other for materials that do not fit one of the named categories, or for materials that you do not want grouped with the standard metal types.

Material Type helps customers filter materials by category on the quote form.

If Quote & Cut Enterprise is active, Material Type is also used for market indexing:

  • Aluminium follows the Aluminium index.
  • Carbon Steel follows the Carbon Steel index.
  • Galvanised Steel follows the Carbon Steel index.
  • Stainless Steel follows the Stainless Steel index.
  • Other is not market-indexed.

Thickness #

The Thickness (mm) field is the material thickness in millimetres.

This is used for quote data, customer selection, and weight calculations.

Examples:

  • 1
  • 1.5
  • 3
  • 6
  • 10

Cost #

The Cost field is the full sheet cost for that material.

This should be the cost of one sheet using the material’s configured sheet length and width.

For example, if the material is set to 3000 × 1500 mm, enter the cost for one 3000 × 1500 mm sheet.

This field is used by all pricing models.

Gas Used #

The Gas Used field controls which gas cost is applied to the material.

Available options are:

  • Compressed Air.
  • Oxygen.
  • Nitrogen.

Choose the gas that matches your cutting process for that material and thickness.

Editing details #

Click Edit details to open additional material fields.

These include:

  • Material Type.
  • Sheet details.
  • Cut data.

Do not leave these fields incomplete. Missing material data can prevent quotes from calculating correctly.

Material Type is especially important because it controls how the material appears in the frontend material picker and, if Enterprise is active, how the material maps to market indexing.

Saving material changes #

After adding, editing, or removing materials, click:

Save Settings

Then test the quote form.

Best practice #

For each material and thickness you sell online, create a separate material row.

For example:

  • Mild Steel S275 1.5 mm.
  • Mild Steel S275 3 mm.
  • Mild Steel S275 5 mm.
  • Stainless Steel 304 2 mm.
  • Stainless Steel 304 3 mm.

This makes pricing, cutting speed, pierce time, gas choice, and sheet cost easier to control.

Check that each material is assigned to the correct Material Type so customers can find it in the correct category on the quote form.
