Powder coating pricing controls how much is added when customers select a colour and finish for a part.
You can find these settings from:
Quote & Cut → Secondary Processes → Powder Coating
Main powder coating price fields #
The main powder coating price settings are:
- Powder coverage rate.
- Default setup fee per powder colour.
- Minimum powder coating charge.
- Per-part powder coating charge.
- Colour and finish price per kg.
- Weight handling surcharge bands.
- Length handling surcharge bands.
Powder coverage rate #
The Powder coverage rate is entered in:
m²/kg
Quote & Cut uses this to estimate how much powder is needed.
Example:
If your powder coverage rate is 6 m²/kg, Quote & Cut estimates that 1 kg of powder covers 6 square metres.
The correct value depends on your coating system, film thickness, transfer efficiency, powder type, and production process.
How coated area is estimated #
Quote & Cut uses the part area and estimates coating on both sides of the part.
The part area is converted from square millimetres to square metres, then doubled.
This gives an estimated coated area.
Colour and finish price per kg #
Each powder colour can have a different price per kg for each finish level.
The finish levels are:
- Textured.
- Matte 30±5.
- Semi Glossy 60±5.
- Glossy 80±5.
Enter the price per kg for each colour and finish combination you want to offer.
Leave a finish price blank if that finish is not available for that colour.
Default setup fee per powder colour #
The Default setup fee per powder colour is added once for each colour group in the quote.
For example, if a customer selects the same powder colour for multiple parts, the colour setup fee is applied once to that colour group.
If the customer selects two different powder colours, the setup fee can apply once to each colour group.
Minimum powder coating charge #
The Minimum powder coating charge is applied once per colour group.
It includes the colour setup fee.
This helps protect you from undercharging small powder coating jobs.
Per-part powder coating charge #
The Per-part powder coating charge is added for each component.
Use this to recover handling, hanging, masking, inspection, or general processing cost per part.
Weight handling surcharge bands #
Weight handling surcharge bands add a flat fee per component based on the weight of a single part.
Each band has:
- From.
- To.
- Fee per component.
Example:
| From | To | Fee per component |
| 10 kg | 20 kg | £50 |
If a single component falls inside the band, the fee is added to that component.
Length handling surcharge bands #
Length handling surcharge bands add a flat fee per component based on the longest side of the part.
Each band has:
- From.
- To.
- Fee per component.
Example:
| From | To | Fee per component |
| 1000 mm | 2000 mm | £30 |
If the part’s longest side falls inside the band, the fee is added to that component.
How powder coating is calculated #
For each powder coated part, Quote & Cut estimates:
- Coated area.
- Powder required.
- Powder cost based on the selected colour and finish.
- Per-part powder coating charge.
- Weight handling surcharge, if applicable.
- Length handling surcharge, if applicable.
Then Quote & Cut groups powder coating by colour and applies:
- Colour setup fee.
- Minimum powder coating charge, if required.
Colour grouping example #
If a quote contains three parts using RAL 9005, the setup fee for that colour is applied once to the RAL 9005 group.
If the same quote also contains two parts using RAL 9010, a separate setup fee can apply to the RAL 9010 group.
Recommended test #
After configuring powder coating prices, test:
- One small coated part.
- Several parts using the same colour.
- Several parts using different colours.
- A part that triggers a length surcharge.
- A part that triggers a weight surcharge.
- A colour and finish with a price.
- A colour where some finish prices are blank.
Compare the results with your normal powder coating pricing.
