About Quote & Cut

I Built Quote & Cut Because I Know What It's Like to Be the Customer

I’m Paul Brown. For years I bought laser cut parts for my own business and spent days trading emails with cutting companies before a single part was made. In 2025 I bought a laser of my own, and I wasn’t going to put my customers through what I’d been through. So I built the software I’d always wanted to order from. It runs my shop’s real orders, and now it can run on yours.

The Customer's Side

Days of Emails Before Anyone Cut Anything

I’ve run my business Stoaked for years, and some products we make need laser cut parts. Ordering them went the same way every time. I’d send the DXF files and wait. A day or two later I’d get questions: which material, what thickness, how many, did I want the holes tapped. I’d answer. Another day, a price. Then I’d read the quote and find it was wrong: the quantity was out, a thickness had been mixed up, one of the parts was missing. So I’d email back to correct it, and sometimes correct the correction. If I changed a quantity myself, the whole loop started again. By the time the parts were on a machine, my own production had been held up for most of a week.None of it was anyone’s fault. That is just how laser cutting is sold: a person has to open every file, measure it, ask about everything the file doesn’t say and type up a quote, and every one of those steps is a chance for a mistake. I was the customer at the end of that process, and it cost me time I couldn’t get back.

The Cutter's Side

Then I Bought a Laser Cutter

In 2025 I bought a laser cutting machine and started Precision Laser Cutting. The first thing I noticed was that I was about to become the person my customers waited on. Every DXF that came in would need me to open it, work it out and email back.

I didn’t want to run a shop like that, and I didn’t want my customers to have the experience I’d had. The fix was obvious to me as a customer: let people upload their files, answer the questions on screen, see the price straight away and order. No emails, no waiting, no chasing.

I assumed someone had already built it. I asked Ash, my developer, to look at what was out there, and we both expected to find something we could just install. We didn’t. Everything we tried was built for the estimator’s desk rather than the customer’s screen, or sent customers off to another company’s website to order, or needed a laser shop to hand its pricing to someone else’s engine. Nothing was fit for the way I wanted to sell. So we started building our own, and at the time it was only ever meant to be for my website.

The First Version

Built for My Shop, Tested on Real Orders

The first Quote & Cut was for Precision Laser Cutting and nobody else. It read the customer’s CAD files, nested the parts onto my real sheet sizes, applied my cutting speeds, machine rate, gas costs and markup, and showed a price on my website for the customer to accept. The order went into my WooCommerce store with the file attached, ready for production.

I used it on live orders before it was a product. Every rough edge was found by a real customer uploading a real file, and I fixed it because an order depended on it. The nesting engine, the file checks, choosing folds and powder coating on a 3D view of the part, the lead-time options, the production files on the order: each one is there because I needed it, first as the customer and then as the cutter.

Why a Plugin

It Had to Live on My Own Website

I already had a website that customers found on Google and a WooCommerce store that took payments. Sending those customers off to someone else’s quoting portal, on someone else’s domain, with a percentage taken from every order, made no sense to me. So Quote & Cut became a WordPress plugin. The quote form sits on your own pages, the price comes from your own rules, the payment goes through your own checkout, and the customer never leaves your site.

That decision shaped everything else: one flat price per website rather than per user, a free plan so any shop can start, and no fee on orders. It’s the deal I’d have wanted as a customer, so it’s the deal I offer.

See It Running

Try Quote & Cut on the Shop It Was Built For

The quickest way to understand Quote & Cut is to use it the way my customers do. It’s live on the Precision Laser Cutting website right now. Upload a DXF, pick a material and thickness, set a quantity and watch the price appear. If you’ve got a STEP file with folds in it, try that too.

This takes you to Precision Laser Cutting’s website. It’s my real shop, so if you add a job to the cart, I can make it.

Today

One Shop's Tool, Now Any Shop's

Quote & Cut now runs on laser cutting websites beyond mine, with the same three plans for everyone: a free Starter plan, Advanced for shops that sell folding, powder coating and hole operations, and Enterprise for shops that track sheet stock and want material prices to follow the metal markets. I still buy parts, I still cut parts, and I still run my own shop on it. When something is slow or wrong, I hear about it from my own customers first.

FAQ's

About Quote & Cut: Common Questions

Quote & Cut was created by me, Paul Brown, working alongside my developer, Ash. I'm not just someone who decided to build a piece of software for the laser cutting industry. I'm a business owner who understands firsthand how frustrating and time-consuming the traditional quotation process can be.

I've been running my business, Stoaked, for years, and in 2025 I launched Precision Laser Cutting, my own laser cutting business. Having previously experienced the frustration of waiting days for laser cutting quotations, I knew there had to be a better way of doing things.

That's where the idea for Quote & Cut came from. Working closely with Ash, we developed a system designed to make the quotation and ordering process faster, easier and more convenient for both customers and laser cutting businesses.

Yes, absolutely. Precision Laser Cutting is a genuine, fully operational laser cutting business that I own and run. It isn't a fictional company or a demonstration website created simply to showcase Quote & Cut. It's a real business serving real customers, processing genuine enquiries, quotes and orders.

The Precision Laser Cutting website uses Quote & Cut as part of its day-to-day operations, allowing customers to get quotes and place orders for their laser cutting projects. This makes it an ideal live demonstration of the software because you can see how it works in a real commercial environment rather than a simulated test system.

I chose to use my own business as the example because I believe the best way to demonstrate a product is to show it doing the job it was designed for. It also means I use Quote & Cut myself, giving me firsthand experience of how it performs in a working laser cutting business and helping me identify opportunities to improve it.

When you visit Precision Laser Cutting, you're seeing Quote & Cut in action on a genuine business website, not a sandbox or a mock-up.

You can try Quote & Cut directly on my Precision Laser Cutting website without downloading any software, installing plugins or setting up your own website.

To make things even easier, I've provided a sample test file that you can download from just below the quotation form. Simply upload the file to the form and explore all the features Quote & Cut has to offer. This allows you to experience the entire quotation process firsthand and see exactly how the software works in a real-world laser cutting business.

Simply visit the website and use the online quotation form exactly as one of my customers would. This gives you the opportunity to explore how Quote & Cut works from a customer's perspective and experience the quotation process firsthand.
