When folding is enabled for a part, customers can optionally upload a folding drawing.

This lets customers provide extra information such as bend lines, fold direction, dimensions, notes, or production intent.

Where customers upload folding drawings #

On the frontend quote form, customers first select:

Add folding

The folding fields then appear, including:

Folding drawing optional

Supported file types #

Folding drawing uploads support these file types:

  • PDF.
  • DXF.
  • DWG.
  • JPG.
  • JPEG.
  • PNG.
  • STEP.
  • STP.

Upload limits #

Each folding drawing can be up to 20 MB.

The total folding drawing upload allowance is 100 MB per quote.

If a file is too large or the quote exceeds the total allowance, the customer will not be able to continue with that upload.

Drawing upload is optional #

The folding drawing field is optional.

Customers can still request folding without uploading a drawing, as long as they enter the number of folds.

However, you may want to use the customer instruction text to ask for a drawing where folding details are important.

Number of folds is required #

If a customer enables folding, they must enter the number of folds.

A folding drawing alone is not enough.

Fold notes #

Customers can also enter fold notes or instructions.

Use this for information such as:

  • Fold direction.
  • Inside or outside dimensions.
  • Bend radius.
  • Critical dimensions.
  • Special instructions.
  • Reference to drawing annotations.

Recommended instruction text #

You can add instruction text from:

Quote & Cut → Secondary Processes → Folding → Customer instruction text

Example:

Please enter the number of folds and upload a folding drawing where possible. Include fold direction, bend radius, and any critical dimensions in the notes or drawing.

Where drawings are stored #

Folding drawings are saved with the Quote & Cut job files.

They are linked to the relevant part and can be reviewed after checkout in the WooCommerce order.

Good customer guidance #

Encourage customers to upload clear folding drawings.

A good folding drawing should show:

  • The part.
  • Fold lines.
  • Fold direction.
  • Fold angle, if required.
  • Important dimensions.
  • Any critical tolerances.
  • Notes for production.

If an upload fails #

A folding drawing may fail if:

  • The file type is not supported.
  • The file is larger than 20 MB.
  • The total folding drawing uploads exceed 100 MB for the quote.
  • The file does not pass content validation.
  • The upload is blocked by server settings.
  • The website cannot write files to the job folder.

Testing uploads #

Before going live, test folding uploads using:

  • PDF.
  • DXF.
  • Image file.
  • STEP or STP file, if relevant.
  • A file larger than 20 MB, to confirm the error is clear.
  • Multiple folding drawings in one quote.
