Applies to: Enterprise

Enterprise Market Indexing uses the material’s core Material Type to decide which market index the material follows.

You can set Material Type from:

Quote & Cut → Settings → Materials → Edit details

Material Type mapping #

The market index mapping is:

  • Aluminium → Aluminium index.
  • Carbon Steel → Carbon Steel index.
  • Galvanised Steel → Carbon Steel index.
  • Stainless Steel → Stainless Steel index.
  • Other → Not indexed.

Aluminium #

Use Aluminium for aluminium sheet materials.

Examples may include:

  • Aluminium 1050.
  • Aluminium 5251.
  • Aluminium 6082.

Enterprise maps this Type to the Aluminium index.

Carbon Steel #

Use Carbon Steel for mild steel and general carbon steel sheet materials.

Examples may include:

  • Mild Steel.
  • S275.
  • S355.

Enterprise maps this Type to the Carbon Steel index.

Galvanised Steel #

Use Galvanised Steel for galvanised, zintec, or zinc-coated sheet materials.

Enterprise maps this Type to the Carbon Steel index.

This is expected behaviour.

Stainless Steel #

Use Stainless Steel for stainless steel sheet materials.

Examples may include:

  • 304 Stainless Steel.
  • 316 Stainless Steel.

Enterprise maps this Type to the Stainless Steel index.

Other #

Use Other for materials that should not be repriced automatically.

Materials set to Other are skipped by the weekly updater.

Use Other for:

  • Materials you price manually.
  • Special grades.
  • Non-metal materials.
  • Materials with fixed customer pricing.
  • Materials with supplier-specific pricing.
  • Materials that do not match Aluminium, Carbon Steel, Galvanised Steel, or Stainless Steel.
  • Materials you want to exclude from automatic market updates.

Default choice #

If you are unsure, choose Other.

You can change a material to Aluminium, Carbon Steel, Galvanised Steel, or Stainless Steel later after checking your pricing strategy.

Same material family, different thicknesses #

Each material row has its own Material Type.

If you have multiple thicknesses of the same material, set each row correctly.

Example:

  • Mild Steel 1.5 mm → Carbon Steel.
  • Mild Steel 3 mm → Carbon Steel.
  • Mild Steel 10 mm → Carbon Steel.

Changing market behaviour later #

To change which market index a material follows, change its Material Type.

After changing it:

  1. Click Save Settings.
  2. Check the material cost.
  3. Check the Market Index shown for the material.
  4. Check Last Market Refresh.
  5. Review the next weekly update.

Recommended review #

Before enabling automatic weekly updates, review every material row and decide whether it should be:

  • Aluminium.
  • Carbon Steel.
  • Galvanised Steel.
  • Stainless Steel.
  • Other.

This prevents unexpected price changes.
