Material Market Indexing helps keep material sheet costs aligned with market movement.

When enabled, Quote & Cut can update selected material prices weekly using the Quote & Cut market-index feed.

Where market indexing appears #

Market indexing appears in the material table.

Go to:

Quote & Cut → Settings → Materials

Enterprise adds market data to each material row.

This can include:

  • Market Index.
  • Last Market Refresh.

The Market Index is not edited directly. It is based on the material’s core Material Type.

To change the market index used by a material, edit the material’s Type from:

Quote & Cut → Settings → Materials → Edit details

Material Type controls market indexing #

Enterprise maps each material’s Type to a market index.

The mapping is:

  • Aluminium → Aluminium index.
  • Carbon Steel → Carbon Steel index.
  • Galvanised Steel → Carbon Steel index.
  • Stainless Steel → Stainless Steel index.
  • Other → Not indexed.

Which materials are repriced? #

Materials with these Types can be repriced by the weekly updater:

  • Aluminium.
  • Carbon Steel.
  • Galvanised Steel.
  • Stainless Steel.

Materials set to Other are skipped.

Galvanised Steel follows the Carbon Steel index.

Automatic weekly updates #

Below the material table, Enterprise adds the option:

Automatically update indexed material prices weekly

When this is enabled, Quote & Cut schedules a weekly material price refresh.

Only indexed materials are updated.

Materials set to Other are not changed.

How indexed repricing works #

When a material is indexed, Quote & Cut stores a baseline value and a market multiplier.

When the weekly update runs, the material cost can be recalculated using the latest multiplier from the Quote & Cut market-index feed.

This lets material prices move with the relevant market family.

Manual price changes #

If you manually edit the cost of an indexed material, Quote & Cut treats your new saved price as the new starting point for future market movement.

This means you can adjust a material price yourself without permanently opting it out of indexing.

Last Market Refresh #

The Last Market Refresh field shows when the material was last updated by market indexing.

If a material has not yet been synced, it may show:

Not yet synced

If Market Indexing is paused #

If your connected account does not currently include Enterprise Market Indexing:

  • Market data is preserved.
  • Automatic repricing is paused.
  • Fields may be disabled.
  • Existing material costs are not automatically updated.

Important before enabling #

Before enabling automatic updates:

  • Check material costs are accurate.
  • Check each material has the correct Material Type.
  • Set non-indexed materials to Other.
  • Save settings.
  • Record current prices if you want a reference.
  • Check the first update carefully.

Best practice #

Only index materials that should move with the broad material family.

Use Other for:

  • Labour-inclusive material prices.
  • Special grades.
  • Customer-specific pricing.
  • Stock you do not want auto-updated.
  • Materials with manually controlled prices.
  • Non-metal materials.
  • Any material that should not follow the market feed.
